Hello there!

I’m Lili, a Creative Assistant currently on a four month placement here at The Behaviours Agency and this is a blog about me! It’s been a crazy journey to get me to this point and I would love to tell my story. Let’s jump back to May 2022, when things really started to change in my career.

I had just graduated from The University of Salford with a degree in Media and Performance, and I was looking for work in TV and Film to set me on the path to becoming a screenwriter (which is still my dream!). Filled with optimism and determination, I realised pretty soon that finding a job with no industry experience wasn’t going to be the easiest task, and I found myself stuck in a retail job and struggling to get out.

I knew a job wasn’t going to be handed to me, so with a big push from my friends I started freelancing as a videographer shooting fashion films, live events and music videos to build my portfolio. This opened a door for me into digital media and marketing, which was something I had never really considered before.

With perfect timing, I saw an ad for Channel 4’s Content Creatives course, a 6-month programme for working-class people based in the North to help them get their start in creative digital media and give them the skills and experience they need to secure a job in the industry. Exactly what I was looking for.

I applied not expecting to get selected, thinking that with the hundreds of people applying and my lack of industry experience, my chances weren’t looking too good, in my eyes anyway. But two interviews, a pitch and a group task later, I quit my retail job and found myself sat in the Channel 4 headquarters in Leeds, my hometown! A full circle moment!

For two months I was training with Channel 4 and Sharp Futures covering everything from podcasts and video editing, to copywriting and analytics. I gained so much confidence in my skills to prepare me for placement. My cohort is filled with such lovely and like-minded people and the course leaders were fantastic. It was great to be experiencing this journey with them. It was a jam-packed 8 weeks that flew by!

Before I knew it, I was starting my placement at The Behaviours Agency.

My first introduction to TBA was at the group interview day at Channel 4 where Phil and Harry were giving a talk about the agency and what we would be getting up to if we were on placement with them. I had tea and a little chat with Phil before my interview and after hearing about the work they do, I immediately hoped to be on placement at TBA.

Already in my first two weeks here I have learnt so much and been introduced to so many new skills, people and experiences! I had the chance to go to an exciting shoot and it was amazing to see close-up how everything works on set. This was something I had wanted to do for a long time so I was very grateful to be there on my second day of placement! I’ve worked on different briefs coming up with ideas and working on my copywriting skills. Even being in meetings with clients and having briefs is something totally new to me and has been so useful to experience.

Most recently I’ve been doing some design work on Illustrator coming up with new logo ideas which I’ve never done before! I’ve also started to learn about behavioural science and how different strategies can be used in marketing, some of these I have used without even realising!

Everyone at the agency has been so welcoming and made me feel comfortable straight away. I’m looking forward to spending more time with everyone and learning about the different roles at the agency. Just from these two weeks it has opened my eyes to different kinds of jobs I might want to pursue in the future.

I am very excited for the rest of my placement and I can already see my improvement in such a short amount of time. So I can’t wait to see where I will be in four months.
